About 2 hours from tower 1 to tower 10 and back, depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take photos. (I stopped a lot.)

Yes. We did. Book a private car, buy tickets at the gate. No tour required.

Mostly original. Almost no refurbishment. That is the point.

April to June or September to November. Clear skies, moderate temperatures, fewer tourists.

Can you see the Great Wall at night at Simatai?

Yes. Simatai offers night tours. Only towers 5 and 6 are open and you can only access via cable car. Worth doing if you have time for both day and night, but day gives you the full experience.

No. The trails are bumpy and the wall has steps. Juyongguan is the accessible option.

Jinshanling for the classic panoramic shots. Simatai for the authentic, unrestored look. Both are excellent.
